Altered book. Assignment 9: Balance. I wasn't sure what to do for this one. I wanted to put the number 10 in the middle because it's symmetrical but this is assignment 9 so I went with that. I think it looks cooler this way. This was the most difficult one and I probably should have done something a little simpler.
It took me somewhere between 4 and 6 hours to finish. I cut through about 20 layers of paper times five for each set of holes with a box cutter, glued the pages together except for the two pages in the middle and stuck cellophane behind the pages seen, placed beads in each pocket (they rolled off several times and I still have beads on my floor right now), folded the cellophane in half so the beads would not roll around, and glued that all together with the rest of the pages. The holes in all those layers are supposed to keep the beads more in place and not so much sticking out when you see them. Then I painted the pages.
It may not seem like this one relates to the ocean either, but it reminds me of memories in Canada and Hawaii, where most of my time was spent in or near the ocean. The pockets represent tide pools, if that makes it any clearer. If it makes you happy, the glass beads could represent beach glass and the wooden beads could represent driftwood.
Whatever floats your boat.

HAHAHA orz, look at me, making stupid nautical jokes.
